Time Connectives of Past Tense

Time connectives atau kata hubung waktu digunakan untuk menunjukkan urutan kejadian dalam kalimat atau cerita yang menggunakan past tense.

Beberapa contoh time connectives yang umum digunakan dalam past tense:

Menunjukkan Urutan Peristiwa:

Before: Sebelum. 

Contoh: I washed my hands before I ate. (Saya mencuci tangan saya sebelum saya makan). 

After: Setelah. 

Contoh: She finished her work after the sun set. (Dia menyelesaikan pekerjaannya setelah matahari terbenam). 

Then: Kemudian. 

Contoh: I went to the market, then I went home. (Saya pergi ke pasar, kemudian saya pulang). 

Next: Selanjutnya. 

Contoh: First, I made the dough. Next, I baked the bread. (Pertama, saya membuat adonan. Selanjutnya, saya memanggang roti). 

After that/Subsequently: Setelah itu. 

Contoh: He finished his work. After that/Subsequently, he went to bed. (Dia menyelesaikan pekerjaannya. Setelah itu, dia pergi tidur). 

Finally/At last/In the end: Akhirnya. 

Contoh: Finally, they arrived at the station. (Akhirnya, mereka tiba di stasiun). 

Later/Later on: Kemudian. 

Contoh: I called him later. (Saya meneleponnya nanti). 

As soon as: Segera setelah. 

Contoh: As soon as I arrived, I called you. (Segera setelah saya tiba, saya menelepon Anda). 

Meanwhile: Sementara itu. 

Contoh: I was cooking dinner. Meanwhile, he was setting the table. (Saya sedang memasak makan malam. Sementara itu, dia sedang menyiapkan meja). 

Before long: Tidak lama kemudian. 

Contoh: Before long, the rain started. (Tidak lama kemudian, hujan mulai turun). 

Menunjukkan Waktu Tertentu:

When: Ketika. 

Contoh: When I was a child, I used to play in the park. (Ketika saya masih kecil, saya biasa bermain di taman). 

While: Sementara. 

Contoh: While I was walking, I saw a cat. (Saat saya sedang berjalan, saya melihat seekor kucing). 

During: Selama. 

Contoh: During the night, it rained heavily. (Selama malam itu, hujan turun deras). 

Until/Till: Hingga/sampai

Contoh: I waited until the bus came. (Saya menunggu hingga bus datang). 

Since: Sejak. 

Contoh: I have lived here since 2010. (Saya telah tinggal di sini sejak tahun 2010). 

Ago: yang lalu. 

Contoh: I saw him two days ago. (Saya melihatnya dua hari yang lalu). 

Last (night/week/month/year): Minggu lalu. 

Contoh: I saw him last night. (Saya melihatnya tadi malam).
